OS X 10.11 El Capitàn Gold Master Candidate - Visions from the future

Apple has recently released OS X 10.11 El Capitàn Gold Master Candidate, which is supposed to be the last Beta release of El Capitàn before the final version.

El Capitàn official release is scheduled by September 30, 2015.

For this reason, though the GM Candidate version doesn't feature outstanding changes confronted with earliest Beta releases (see my previous post OS X El Capitan (10.11) Public Beta - Minor update, good stuff for more details), its analysis can help understand what El Capitàn final official version will look like.

In my opinion, though the new OS X version is considered a minor update to Yosemite, it does bring some major improvements.

Pros:
  • More powerful Spotlight functionalities: Spotlight has been reconfigured as a real Web search engine, an evolution I had considered predictable having a closer look at Apple official presentation at WWDC 2015.
  • Split View: Split View is a great improvement to Mission Control, as it's now possible to display two files in full screen side by side in a separate desktop.
  • Enhanced Safari functionalities: The more helpful new Safari feature is related to auto-starting videos. When a tab starts automatically playing a video, or an audio file, Safari displays an audio icon on it, allowing to quickly mute the audio for that specific tab. This feature solves a very annoying problem.
Cons:
  • Safari issues haven't been solved.
  • It's still impossible to record the screen with Quicktime.
  • The New message sound issue in Apple Mail is still unsolved.

Sept 19, 2015 Edit: El Capitàn Gold Master Candidate has redesigned Disk Utility.

Compared with the past, Disk Utility lacks Verify Disk and Verify Disk Permissions.

However, it features First Aid, which looks much alike Verify Disk.

For you to partition your hard drive, you need to select your device, identified by an alphanumerical ID (in my case is the device whose name starts with ST30) and click Partition. From the resulting window, you can select the partition you want to modify and apply your changes.
