OS X - Quit all open applications with a click
Sometimes you need to quickly shutdown your Mac, but there are several open applications.
You curse because the whole operation is slow, as each one of them will have to write to disk to save its current status, and quit.
Or you need to quickly close all your open applications for other reasons.
You could use Application Switcher (CMD/TAB), cycle through your applications and press Q to quit them.
What if there was a way to close all open applications with a click? Well, luckily there is.
You'll need to create a simple Automator application.
Steps
- When Automator opens up, click Application.
- Click Choose.
- In the search space that will appear in the next page, enter quit.
- Select Quit all applications from the search results.
- Drag it to the right. In the resulting window, deselect Ask to save changes and then hit the close button on top of Automator.
- You'll be prompted to save your application. Give it a name (I called mine quitter) and save it where you want.
- That's all. Pin your application to the Dock and now you'll be able to fastly quit all your applications with a click.
Enjoy!!
